In this study, orthogonal and non-orthogonal structure has been modeled using Staad Pro software and analysed with gravity and seismic loads according to IS 1893 (Part1):2016 and IS 456:2000. Despite the potential advantages and disadvantages of both orthogonal and non-orthogonal structures, relatively few studies have been conducted to directly compare their performance across various metrics. This paper presents an analysis of two proposed G+5 RCC framed Residential buildings in Jalandhar. The buildings, sharing plan dimensions of 25mx25m, undergo dynamic analysis using the response spectrum method. All relevant considerations, including loadings and the number of columns, remain consistent for both structures. This study aims to compare the structures based on time period, maximum storey displacements, base shear, storey drift, storey shear, bending moment in beams and columns and to propose which structure performs well during seismic occurrence based on various parameters compared. Additionally, a cost analysis of materials (concrete and steel) has been conducted. Findings reveal that the total cost of non-orthogonal buildings is 1.35 times higher than orthogonal structure, whereas orthogonal structure exhibit a 22% increase in maximum storey displacement and a 36% higher storey drift compared to non-orthogonal structures.
