Dairy Institute Comes To Close: Eighth Annual Event See 180 Attending, Compared With 100 Year Ago. ; DAIRY INSTITUTE COMES TO CLOSE Eighth Annual Event Sees 180 Attending, Compared With 100 Year Ago. WASHINGTON STATE COLLEGE, PULLMAN, Feb. 23.—An outstanding success, the eighth annual institute of dairying here, closed today. The six-day program was attended by 180 persons connected with the dairy industry of the state, compared with about 100 a year ago. A record number of products was scored and judged. Professor E. V. Ellington, head of the dairy department, and H. A. Bendixen, associated professor of dairy husbandry, were in charge. Demonstrations in the bacteriological, chemical and manufacturing laboratories by the college staff were given today. Consultation on plant and farm problems was held by the delegates with Dr. O. F. Hunziker, manager of the manufacturing department and director of research of the Blue Valley creamery, Chicago, chief speaker of the institute. He was formerly head of the department of dairy husbandry, Purdue university. Examinations were given by the state dairy inspectors for graders' weighers and testers' licenses. A fund of $150 was contributed by three state organizations, the Washington Creamery Operators' association, the Washington Milk Dealers' association and the Washington Ice Cream Manufacturers' association, to be used by Professor Bendixen in conducting a student plant survey this Four dairy students will be chosen .on their merits to make a nine-day trip to inspect dairy plants through-out the state. |
