Theatrical anthropophagy in São Luís in Maranhão, Brazil, emerges as a creative and innovative theatrical practice that incorporates diverse cultural elements in its productions, while maintaining a strong local identity. To understand and analyze the contributions ofthe phenomenon of anthropophagic theater in theater, a theoretical framework based on the ideas of Santos has been employed, highlighting the importance of popular cultures, and critiquing their marginalization by the hegemonic system. Additionally, the reflections of Quijano are considered, revealing how racial hierarchy and the global division of labor affect the imposition of dominant culture on subaltern cultures. These theories allow for an analysis of the context in which theatrical anthropophagy unfolds and its resistance to cultural homogenization. Furthermore, Geertz’s conception of culture, understanding it as a web of meanings requiring interpretation, is considered. This theoretical perspective is relevant for understanding how theatrical anthropophagy reinterprets and transforms cultural elements, devouring them and endowing them with a genuinely Brazilian authenticity. As a result of this theatrical practice, the construction of a decolonized scenic poetics that highlights the Afro-indigenous cultural roots of the region is evident. Through the rescue and valorization of local cultural diversity, theatrical anthropophagy positions itself as a form of cultural resistance and a valuable contribution to the development of a distinct theatrical aesthetic. ; El teatro antropofágico en São Luís de Maranhão, Brasil, se presenta como una práctica teatral creativa e innovadora, que incorpora elementos culturales diversos en sus producciones, manteniendo, al mismo tiempo, una fuerte identidad local.
