Among the different actions aimed to improve the cultivation technology of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.), there is the optimization of its growing conditions. To do this, identifying their nutritional requirements is one of the strategies that allow for improving plant material. Among the essential nutrients, potassium was selected as one of the fundamental elements for the regulation of hydric, enzymatic, ionic, and osmoregulatory processes. Therefore, it was sought to deepen the optimization of this nutrient level for different cocoa genotypes. In this study, the effect of different concentrations and sources of K+ on morpho-physiological characteristics of five genotypes of T. cacao was evaluated. Mainly differences in height, root length, and biomass were found between clones CCN-51, FSA-13, and FEAR-5, the first two being the ones that registered higher values. Similarly, a redistribution of root and shoot biomass was found in plants grown with the lowest potassium concentration (0,16g/plant). In particular, the root: shoot ratio for the CCN-51 genotype was higher. Regarding the physiological parameters, high values were found in stomatal conductance and chlorophyll fluorescence for all genotypes regardless of the treatments evaluated. Additionally, the genetic variations between the genotypes show differential responses to the nutritional conditions evaluated. Finally, results suggest that cocoa plants achieved adequate development when supplemented with 016 g of K+/plant at this growth stage, and both sources, KNO3 and KCl, are adequate for this nutrient supply. |
