The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the current state of the shrimp sector in the Chone canton. The applied methodology was framed in a descriptive research with a field design and with elements of a bibliographical documentary study. The study sample was made up of 50 elements. For the collection of information, a survey was applied through a questionnaire specially prepared for this purpose to the producers and/or managers of the shrimp farms of the Chone canton. The results show that 76% of the shrimp farms are active; 56% of the land used for shrimp production is private property; 98% of the pools per hectare of the shrimp farms surveyed are currently used for production; 53% of the shrimp farms operate with their own capital; 84% of the owners and managers of the shrimp farms consider it important to know the costs of shrimp production; 53% rate the profitability of their shrimp farms as good; 58% directly market their product; the most frequent difficulties encountered are the control and surveillance of the State with 45%; financing with 42% and technical advice with 34%. It was concluded that this aquaculture sector in the Chone canton is an important source of employment and economic development that also includes actions to contribute to social and environmental well-being, presents difficulties that must be overcome so that the profit margin expected by the producers is registered. In this sense, adequate planning would allow it to provide scenarios and establish coping strategies to improve the functioning of this important economic sector for the locals. ; O objetivo desta investigação foi avaliar o estado atual do setor de camarão no cantão de Chone.
