Surface water resources of the Gallegos river have been scarcely and sporadically studied. Fundamental data on its past dynamics, current water production and trends are currently lacking. Establishing the basic knowledge of water resource is essential to ensure its proper management in this region of great importance because of the type and intensity of its economy. A background compilation, continuous hydrometric series and dispersed data from the region were obtained from a variety of studies, technical reports, publications and recent research work. The monthly, seasonal and annual production of surface waters in the main course and tributary of the Gallegos river was analyzed. In general terms the hydrological information available from a few gauging stations in a vast territory is scarce, dispersed and discontinuous, although a preliminary approximation of the behavior of surface water and its spatial variability was possible at watershed scale, as well as the identification of gaps in information and knowledge that could guide future lines of research. Rivers Rubens and Penitente contribute together, among the few tributaries of the hydrographic system, with the highest monthly and seasonal flows. Predominant fluvial regimes show a dependence on autumn-winter precipitation and seasonal snow melting. In general terms, the observed trends reveal a slight increase in average annual and monthly flows towards 2014 with the exception of eastern tributaries such as the Ci Aike / Chico river, with a clear downward trend. ; Los recursos hídricos de superficie han sido escasa y esporádicamente estudiados en la región del río Gallegos. Se carece actualmente de datos fundamentales sobre su dinámica pasada, producción actual de aguas y tendencias. Esta región reviste gran importancia económica por el tipo e intensidad de su economía por lo que el establecimiento de conocimiento básico del recurso resulta fundamental para asegurar su apropiada gestión.
