الوصف: The MHC-based suppression theory (MBS) was first proposed by the author as a system for T cell control over a decade ago. At that time suppression of T cells was a deeply unpopular concept and it was not possible publish in widely read journals, so it is likely most visitors to this Website have never heard of it. However, T cell suppression is currently back in favour, this time called regulation, but there can be little doubt it is the same phenomenon. This treatise revision explores the relationship between T cells, MHC molecules and the peptides they carry. It proposes a paradigm shift concerning the reason for the extreme polymorphism of the MHC which has been hitherto focussed on peptide binding, but has here been proposed to prevent invader duplication and interference. From this change it was possible to derive molecular mechanisms that explain phenomena such as T cell regulation, T cell homeostasis, alloimmunity and autoimmune disease.
