Initiés par la commune de Saint-Maime, des travaux de restauration s’attachent à sauvegarder et mettre en valeur les vestiges de l’ancien château dominant le village. Après une première campagne conduite sur le donjon polygonal arasé, un projet vise à valoriser la chapelle Sainte-Agathe qui était intégrée à l’organisation de l’ensemble castral. La mission, conduite et dirigée par le service architecture du Parc naturel régional du Luberon, vise à réaliser une analyse fine de ce monument afin de cibler au mieux les travaux conservatoires à mettre en oeuvre. Datée de l’époque romano-gothique, la chapelle recèle toutefois des indices qui renvoient à une phase médiévale antérieure. Dans son état actuel de conservation, elle démontre une organisation amputée de deux autres volumes qui complétaient initialement le plan. Simple dans sa conception, l’édifice révèle une architecture de qualité que rehaussent quelques décors sculptés ainsi qu’un superbe ensemble peint d’époque gothique qui anime le choeur. ; Initiated by the municipality of Saint-Maime, restoration works to preserve and enhance the remains of the old castle overlooking the village. After a first campaign conducted on the leveled polygonal keep, a project designed to enhance the Sainte- Agathe’s chapel built into the whole castle settlement. The mission, directed by the architecture service of the Luberon Regional Park, aims to provide a detailed analysis of this monument to prepare future conservation projects. Dating from the Roman- Gothic period, however, the chapel contains elements of an earlier medieval phase. In its current state of conservation, it shows an organization whose two initial volumes have disappeared. Simple in design, the building has a high architectural quality, animated by some carved decorations and a superb set of Gothic painting that decorates the choir.
