En 1502, Juan de Vergara, chantre de la catedral de Sevilla, dotaba los maitines del domingo de Resurrección. Mediante esta fundación, el ritual se enriquecía con una procesión que, terminado el oficio de maitines, se dirigía a la capilla de la Virgen de la Antigua, durante la cual se interpretaban una serie de ítems en canto llano y, ya en la puerta de la capilla, se cantaba la antífona Regina celi polifónicamente. Con el paso de los años, se incorporaron tres villancicos a los maitines y la interpretación del himno Pange lingua y el Alabado con la capilla de música y los ministriles de la catedral. In 1502, Juan de Vergara, precentor of the Seville Cathedral, endowed the Matins services of Easter. Through this foundation, the ritual was enriched with a procession that, after the service of Matins, went to the chapel of the Virgen de la Antigua, during which a series of items were performed in plain chant and, already at the door of the chapel, the antiphon Regina celi was sung polyphonically.
