| الوصف: | This chapter explores the forms and the evolution of Gothic tropes in contemporary Italian literature, comics, and cinema. While the 1980s and 1990s saw a great development of Gothic and horror comics, the general tendency is of a consistent reduction of markedly Gothic cultural products. This happened despite the persisting commercial and critical success of products like Dylan Dog . The late twentieth century is marked by the decline of the phenomenon of the fumetto nero and by a consistent impoverishment in Italian horror cinema, in terms both of quantity and quality. On the other hand, the diffusion of postmodernism in Italian literature, together with the growing debate on the fantastic, marks the entrance of Gothic tropes in the work of mainstream Italian authors. These tropes can be found even in the most recent forms of Italian supernatural fiction, as testified by the recent debate on the so-called New Italian Weird. |
