الوصف: | International audience ; One third of women perceive their childbirth as traumatic, and more than 12% of women present symptoms of post-traumatic stress related to childbirth (PTSD-A). This has serious consequences for the health of both mother and child, and represents a significant cost for health insurers. A negative experience of childbirth is a risk factor for PTSD-A, and certain preparations for childbirth could prevent the risk of PTSD-A. The aim of the study was to evaluate, in the real-life setting of a Swiss university hospital, the experience of childbirth and the presence of PTSD-A symptoms, whatever the type of birth preparation (intra- or extra-hospital), and to assess the satisfaction and usefulness of the hospital's provided antenatal classes .A retrospective cross-sectional study measuring the satisfaction of all women who gave birth to their first child at term between 2018 and 2020 was carried out in 2021. Slightly fewer than 800 women responded to our questionnaire (RR: 27.6%). Three quarters of them had taken part in antenatal classes, jof which just under half were held in the hospital. No difference was found between the groups (anteantal classes attendance or not ) in terms of mode of delivery, pain relief and Apgar at birth. However, the study did find a better childbirth experience for the women who had not undergone cantenatal classes, but they also have more symptoms of intrusions (flashbacks, nightmares). There was no significant difference according to the type of antenatal classes (intra- or extra-hospital).A mixed design analysis using a hybrid approach to qualitative methods of thematic analysis (a deductive approach followed by an inductive approach based on the data) was used to analyse the responses of the 248 patients who had attended antenatal classesc at our hospital. While 55.6% of these women found the sessions very or extremely useful, the details session by session were more mixed: the session on childbirth was found very or extremely useful by 44% of patients, while ... |
