| الوصف: | Fils d’une famille de commerçants de Smyrne, Xénos aurait dû faire carrière dans le commerce ou l’armée. En fait, il a été entrepreneur, écrivain, armateur, industriel, audacieux et novateur, il a voulu ouvrir un monde nouveau et rénover la Grèce pour la rendre plus forte. Mais dans son impatience il se brouille avec tous, il mêle le sentiment profond, ici le patriotisme, aux affaires et à la politique, c’est ce qui fait sa spécificité, sa grandeur, mais aussi sa perte, car l’argent, la politique et le sentiment collaborent rarement. ; Son of a merchant family from Smyrna, Xenos should have made a career in trade or in the Greek army. In his life, he was entrepreneur, writer, shipowner, industrial, bold and innovative, he wanted to open a new world and to renovate Greece I order to make it stronger. But, impatient as he is, he gets angry with everybody, he mixes the deep feeling, here patriotism, with business and politics, that’s his specificity, his greatness but also his loss, because money, politics and feelings rarely collaborate. ; Γιος μίας οικογένειας εμπόρων από την Σμύρνη, ο Ξένος είχε όλα τα προσόντα για μια σταδιοδρομία στον εμπόριο ή στον ελληνικό στρατό. Στη ζωή του όμως έγινε επιχειρηματίας, συγγραφέας, εφοπλιστής, βιομήχανος… θαρραλέος και νεωτεριστής, ήθελε να ανοίξει ένα καινούργιο κόσμο, να ανανεώσει την Ελλάδα για να την κάνει πιο δυνατή. Αλλά ανυπόμονος σαν ήταν, θύμωνε με όλους γιατί αναμείγνυε το βαθύ συναίσθημα [εδώ τον πατριωτισμό] με τις επιχειρήσεις και την πολιτική. Αυτό είναι η ειδικότητά του, το μεγαλείο του αλλά και ο χαμός του γιατί το χρήμα, η επιχείρηση και η πολιτική σπάνια πάνε μαζί. |
