| الوصف: | This article is part of a larger research project developed as a requirement for the completion of the Journalism course, which aimed to build a tool of quality indicators for communicative accessibility in journalism. The theoretical discussion focuses on the intertwining of journalism, democracy and citizenship in relation to the theme. Central arguments are the absence of accessibility in journalistic practices, which makes it a gap, and the stigmatized forms of representation of audiences with disabilities. Journalists’ lack of knowledge about assistive technologies and how to make them accessible is also part of the problem. It is argued that it is not possible to have truly democratic and citizen journalism without communicative accessibility. To achieve the aim of the article, a literature review (Barrichello, 2016) was used to delimit theoretical and normative fields. The latter are guides, legislation and accessibility guidelines for communication at both national and international level, which, together with theories of journalism and accessibility, allow us to establish criteria for the construction of indicators. Once these were drafted, they were tested on the websites of two news outlets, with semi-open interviews (Gil, 2008) on usability with people with disabilities, and others with the editors of the outlets analyzed. The conclusion is that accessibility is not a priority for these news outlets, as evidenced by the low scores and records of the absence of assistive technologies, the journalistic culture that does not prioritize accessibility values and the lack of knowledge of the best ways to incorporate it into a production routine. ; Este artigo faz parte de uma pesquisa maior desenvolvida como requisito para conclusão do curso de Jornalismo, que objetivou a construção de uma ferramenta de indicadores de qualidade para a acessibilidade comunicativa no jornalismo.
