الوصف: | Weiss for helpful comments. 2 Labor regulations were the lynchpins of the Progressive movement. During the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries, there was a tremendous expansion in the role that state governments played in regulating labor markets and labor conditions. In the 1870s, 1880s, and 1890s most states established bureaus to collect labor statistics and regulatory bodies to inspect boilers, factories, and mines. Many passed employer liability laws that served to expand the liability of employers for workplace accidents and the vast majority eventually regularized the accident compensation process by establishing strict liability in the form of workers ’ compensation laws.
