Este estudo pretende refletir sobre a contribuição histórica da Arquidiocese de Natal/RN, que, sem intromissões e sem fugir à sua responsabilidade em prol dos empobrecidos, fez diferença através das escolas radiofônicas. Sem a devida atenção das autoridades competentes, uma população ignorante se torna empobrecida, e sem acesso aos direitos inerentes à sua dignidade humana. Em meados do século XX, no Nordeste brasileiro, a Igreja Católica se fez agente de mudança política e social, através de uma série de ações, partes do conhecido “Movimento de Natal”. Uma delas foi a implementação de uma experiência pioneira: um programa sistemático de educação básica pelo rádio. Se nos dias atuais, a educação a distância é considerada trivial, na época exigiu ingentes esforços do idealizador, Dom Eugênio Sales, e de um grande grupo de despretensiosos voluntários que comungaram do mesmo ideal: empoderar o homem do campo e da periferia. A experiência ganhou força tornando-se o Movimento de Educação de Base (MEB) criado pela CNBB e apoiado, posteriormente, pelo Governo Federal. Além da alfabetização, a proposta educativa visava a uma efetiva participação de todos na vida política da nação. Com a instauração do governo militar, em 1964, o programa foi extinto por ser considerado de caráter comunista já que despertava um posicionamento crítico frente às injustiças sociais da época. ABSTRACTThis study intends to contemplate on the historical contribution of the Archdiocese of Natal/RN that - without interferences and without fleeing to its responsibility on behalf of impoverished, - made difference through the radiophonic schools. Without the due attention of the competent authorities, an ignorant population becomes impoverished, and without access to the inherent rights to the human dignity. In the middle of the XX century, in the Brazilian Northeast, the Catholic Church became agent of political and social change, through a series of actions, parts of the Movement of Natal/RN” One of them was the implementation of a pioneering experience: a systematic program of basic education through the radio. If in the current days the education at the distance is considered trivial, at that time it demanded enormous efforts of the idealizer, Mgr. Eugênio Sales, and of a great group of unpretentious volunteers that took communion of the same ideal: to empower the man of the field and of the periphery. The experience won force becoming the Movement of Education of Base (MEB) created by CNBB and supported, later, by the Federal Government. Besides the alphabetic teaching the educational proposal sought an effective participation of all in the political life of the nation. With the military government's instauration, in 1964, the program was extinguished for being considered of communist character since it woke up a critical attitude before the social injustices at the time. |
