| الوصف: | Rotavirus is one of the main causes of gastrointestinal infections in children under five years of age worldwide, with a significant impact on infant morbidity and mortality. The aim of this research was to determine the presence of rotavirus and its correlation with gastrointestinal infections in children under 5 years of age treated at the ZIEHL laboratory during the period from January 2021 to September 2023. The methodology adopted combined a quantitative approach, using an observational and retrospective analytical design. The study population encompassed all 200 available records between January 2021 and September 2023, without employing specific sampling. Results: The age distribution showed that 47% belonged to the group of children under 1 year old. Regarding gender, 48% were male and 52% were female. 66% of the cases were positive for rotavirus, while 65.5% had gastrointestinal infections. A significant association was found between the presence of rotavirus and gastrointestinal complications. The chi-square test showed a significant association between the presence of rotavirus and the risk of developing complications from gastrointestinal infections (p <0.001). Conclusion: The study confirms the high incidence of rotavirus in children under 5 years of age, especially in infants. ; El rotavirus es una de las principales causas de infecciones gastrointestinales en niños menores de cinco años en todo el mundo, con un impacto significativo en la morbimortalidad infantil.
