الوصف: Introduction: Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is largely used in controlling caries and in Atraumatic Restorative Technique. Objectives: To evaluate and compare the compressive strength (CS) and tensile strength (DTS) of conventional GICs, silver sintered GIC reinforced, and experimental silver compounds by weight mixing. Methods: Two different nylon matrices were used to make thirty-four cylinder shaped samples, 17 of which with 4mm diameter X 6mm height for CS test and 17 with 4mm diameter X 2mm height for DTS. Group G1 was composed with Maxxion R®, G8 with Riva Silver® and G9 with Riva Self Cure®. Groups G2 to G7 were composed with Maxxion R®+Velvalloy® in different proportions of silver compound: G2-16.6%, G3-22.0%, G4-28.5%, G5-53.3%, G6- 60.4% e G7-69.3%. Specimens were immersed in water, stored at 37° C for 48 h and then subjected to mechanical testing in a Universal Testing Machine (EMIC-DL-2000) at a cross-rate speed of 1.0 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed using ANOVA One-Way and Duncan Tests (p<5%). Results: for CS (MPa), G9 (125.42 ± 24.88) showed the highest mean value and G1 (74.06 ± 11.87) showed the lowest mean value among all groups (p<0.05); G2 and G3, G4 and G5, G6 and G7, G1 and G7, and G3 and G7 were not different to each other. For DTS, all groups were similar (p = 0.54). Conclusion: Addition of silver compound improves CS in conventional GIC’s, but does not influence the DTS. ; Introdução: O Cimento de Ionômero de Vidro (CIV) é de grande aplicabilidade no controle da doença cárie e no Tratamento Restaurador Atraumático. Objetivos: Avaliar o efeito da adição de liga de prata na resistência à compressão (RC) e à tração diametral (RTD) de CIVs.
