| الوصف: | Despite the decline in the rate of population growth observed in the last decades of the last century, the metropolitan peripheries in Brazil continue to attract significant population flows. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the supposed gain of economic self-sufficiency of the municipalities of the Metropolitan Periphery of Belo Horizonte, based on the commuting displacements. Based on the sample micro data of the Demographic Census of 1991, 2000 and 2010 it was possible to identify a significant growth in the volume of work and students in the metropolitan periphery itself, even though Belo Horizonte maintained its regional centrality. Even though a good part of this workforce is linked to sectors with a lower level of occupational qualification, it seems that the local labor market has increased its power of attraction and retention, allowing part of the population to be employed in the same municipality of residence. ; Apesar da queda no ritmo de crescimento demográfico observado nas últimas décadas do século passado, as periferias metropolitanas no Brasil continuam atraindo expressivos fluxos populacionais. O propósito desse artigo é avaliar o suposto ganho de autossuficiência econômica dos municípios da Periferia Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, tendo como base os deslocamentos pendulares. Com base nos microdados amostrais dos Censos Demográficos de 1980, 2000 e 2010 foi possível identificar um sensível crescimento no volume de trabalhadores e estudantes que realizam suas atividades na própria periferia metropolitana, ainda que Belo Horizonte tivesse mantido sua centralidade regional. Mesmo que boa parte dessa mão de obra esteja vinculada a setores com menor nível de qualificação ocupacional, parece que o mercado de trabalho local tem ampliado o seu poder de atração e retenção, permitindo que parte da população esteja ocupada no próprio município de residência. |
