This research aims to study the motives behind the decision to extend the underground to the municipality of Nacka. The questions focus on how policymakers believe that the underground will lead to sustainable development, what the local inhabitants thinks about the extension and what aspects influence the inhabitants to use public transport. To explore, documents and civic decisions have been reviewed along with interviews with policymakers and questionnaires for local inhabitants. The results show that the main aim of the extension of the underground to Nacka is to enable increased capacity with a supposed sustainable public transport system and as a prerequisite for additional housing in Nacka. Public transport from Stockholm to Nacka shall increase and the use of cars shall decline, according to the policymakers. The local inhabitants are, according to the questionnaires, both positive and negative to the extension of the underground. Respondents that are negative say that they are against the exploitation of the forest as well as the densification of housing. The positive respondents motivate their view with the facts that the underground will lead to better communications, faster transport and increased accessibility. The use of public transport seems to be affected by the change of transit in Nacka and travel time. |
