As the most abundant cell type in the cortex, excitatory pyramidal neurons are critical for cortical function. Understanding overall brain function requires detailed knowledge of cortical functioning, including detailed knowledge about the biophysical properties of cortical excitatory neurons and how synaptic input is integrated within their dendrites.
