الوصف: The Rio de la Plata Basin region is currently the world's leading supplier of genetically modified (GM) grains. Thus, it has configured an export extractive matrix that revitalized the primarization of the economy and created new forms of dependency. For their part, the central countries promote their economy based on knowledge and strengthen the legal instruments that guarantee intellectual property rights. The underlying hypothesis is that the complementation of these models is one of the main indirect drivers of global change. Based on the specialized literature and the reprocessing of information extracted from databases of international and/or regional institutions, the main objective of the article is to examine, in comparative perspective, aspects of the development model of the River Plate countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay) and its main extra-regional trading partners (China, the European Union and Japan), in light of the concept of extractivism and in dialogue with the theoretical approach of cognitive capitalism. We conclude that, in the Río de la Plata Basin, an extractive production model has been configured that is highly functional to the needs of developed countries. These have consolidated a capitalism that needs not only imported raw materials to satisfy its internal demand but also the creation, distribution and use of immaterial goods, such as intellectual property rights, which, when incorporated into the inputs used for the production of raw material, manage to ensure the accumulation of capital. Consequently, the impacts of the indirect drivers differ according to the regions and, in this way, different development models are configured, when complemented, feed the dynamics of the current social metabolism). ; La región de la Cuenca del Rio de la Plata, es actualmente la principal proveedora mundial de granos genéticamente modificados (GM). Así, ha configurado una matriz extractivista exportadora que revitalizó la primarización de la economía y creó nuevas formas de ...
