الوصف: Objective: To examine the relationship between frailty and social relations in non-institutionalized people over 75 years. Background: Frailty has a negative impact on successful aging. Low physical activity, inactivity, and restricted mobility are risk factors that increase frailty in elderly people. Social relations of older people have an effect on health through psychosocial mechanisms and some influence on psychological or cognitive states.Design: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a questionnaire in a sample of 326 individuals over 75 years of age in Castellón (Spain), during 2015, and selected through intentional sampling.Method: The study took place within the context of a frailty analysis and prevention program. The data was collected through a questionnaire adapted from a survey by FRALLE.Results: 12.9% of those surveyed did not see any of their children more than once a month. 42.6% did not see any friend more than once a month. In terms of community participation 66.9% of the sample did not go to any cultural association or club; this proportion was higher among women (72.8%). The mean score for the family bonds index is higher among non-frail (x̅=2.64) than frail (x̅=2.41) (p=0.000). The results show a higher possibility of frailty for women (OR= 2.128; 95% CI 1.179 - 3.840).Conclusion: Family networks and social network diversity were smaller among frail individuals.Relevance to clinical practice: Knowing factors that influence the social relations of the elderly will allow nurses to implement actions that help reduce the frailty. ; Objetivo: examinar la relación entre fragilidad y redes sociales en personas no institucionalizadas mayores de 75 años.Fundamento: la fragilidad tiene un impacto negativo en el envejecimiento exitoso.
