الوصف: | The discussion around Professional and Technological Education resurfaces in Brazil under a challenging scenario. Robots, Artificial Intelligence and other forms of technology contribute to the elimination of jobs and at the same time promote the emergence of new professions. This article analyzes a possible integration between science teaching and professional practices, through the performance of investigative tasks, which effectively collaborates in the training of students in the face of such a situation. It is a qualitative analysis of an intervention planned by three students, accompanied by the supervising professor and carried out in the laboratory of a public technology college located in the city of São Paulo. Data collection took place over six months and the empirical material consisted of written production and observations made during experiments on a refrigeration machine. There were conditioning actions promoted by various situations, including the empirical methods disseminated by companies. On the other hand, the mediations to integrate scientific and professional practices showed the relevance of the link between the objectives of the teaching activity and the particular reasons for the students' learning, noting signs of attribution of meanings between doing the practice and thinking of the students the sciences. These results, in addition to serving as subsidies for technological education teachers, help to rethink possible ways for the professional training of workers in the face of the challenges of the new professions and the knowledge they require.
