الوصف: Foraminifera are microscopic calcium carbonate protists whose shell chemistry varies in response to water conditions during calcification. This relationship allows fossil foraminifera collected from the sediment to be used as a tool for reconstructing conditions such as temperature, salinity, pH, and others when they were alive. This study seeks to reconstruct temperature and productivity within the San Pedro Basin over the last 50 years with the goal of examining the impacts of marine heatwaves in the Southern Bight region. As anthropogenic warming continues, the frequency and intensity of marine heatwaves is increasing in the San Pedro Basin while a lack of research is present to examine the impacts over the last 20 years. The distribution of foraminifera species over the last 20 years indicates that conditions are beginning to favor carnivorous species such as G. bulloides. Similarly, the use of barium to calcium ratio measurements in the shells as a proxy for productivity demonstrates decreases over time, indicating that marine heatwaves are negatively impacting the region’s productivity. ; Keywords: marine heat waves, productivity, foraminifera
