In constrast to the preceding historiographical tradition, the treatment received by Hermenegildo in the Crónica General de España by Ambrosio de Morales, turned the Visigoth prince into a true icon for the monarchy of Philip II. In this essay, we propose to analyze the reasons that moved the pen of the chronicler, as well as the literary procedures used in the configuration of this new image of the character that would soon serve as inspiration for numerous artistic and literary works. ; Frente a la tradición historiográfica precedente, el tratamiento recibido por Hermenegildo en la Crónica General de España de Ambrosio de Morales, convirtió al príncipe visigodo en un verdadero icono para la monarquía de Felipe II. En el presente trabajo, nos proponemos analizar las razones que movieron la pluma del cronista, así como los procedimientos literarios empleados en la configuración de esta nueva imagen del personaje que pronto serviría de inspiración a numerosas obras artísticas y literarias. |
