الوصف: | Globalclimate change has become more evident as a result of the increasing energyconsumption and increasing carbon emissions. Consequently scientific researchrelated to the impacts of climate change on different sectors has diversified.Research focusing on the effects of global warming, climate shifts, glacialmelting, sea level rise in oceans has increased. But in economic sectors liketourism climate change related research remain limited.Thelength of the tourism season directly proportional to the length of the snowydays which have snow depth 30 cm and above. The decrease in the length of thesnowy days and depth of snow will cause the decrease in the quality of snow andthe tourism season. This will affect the feasibility of the winter tourisminvestment and viability of the existing tourism centers. According to Turkey’sFirst Assessment Report on Climate Change the overall temperatures will rise to2.5-3 °C and snow depth will decrease 20cm by the year 2100. With the decreasein the winter snow and snow depth, winter tourism season will get shorter. Since tourism is an important economicsector for Turkey, important investments have been made for the development ofTurkish winter tourism centers as a main focus of Turkey Tourism Strategy inorder to develop alternative tourism types like winter tourism, eco-tourism,health and thermal tourism and to spread the tourism activities all over theyear and all over the country. Since winter tourism is highly sensitive toclimate change, there is a need to undertake research to define the degree ofpossible impacts. This study aims at revealing the climate changeimpacts in winter tourism centers and makes an assessment of the resilience ofchosen Turkish winter tourism centers. In the study resilience of one of theimportant winter tourism centers of Turkey Bolu Köroğlu Dağı Winter TourismCenter which is located in the North West with an altitude of 1850-2200m. andErzurum Palandöken Winter Tourism Center which is located in the North Eastwith an altitude of ile 2200-3176 m. is ... |
