本文从越剧改革的五个角度切入，以越剧史上两次关键性改革——袁雪芬与茅威涛分别领衔的越剧改革之比较为主体，研究当下越剧改革的特征、意义及其对当代戏曲改革的启示。其一，关于戏曲性——改革后的越剧是否仍为戏曲的问题，本文认为当代越剧改革固仍以“话剧化”的方式改革越剧，但在改革越剧旧程式的同时，以歌舞化的方式固守了越剧的戏曲本性。其二，关于剧种性——改革后的越剧是否仍是越剧，集方言和音乐为一体的声腔至今仍为区分剧种的根本，越剧在百年的流变中保持了声腔的稳定性，“茅派”的争议亦未越出越剧剧种的范畴。其三，关于女子越剧，作为越剧标识性的特征，女子越剧是越剧发展的本体选择，亦是当代越剧改革的重要题旨。其四，. ; The paper researches the reform of Shaoxing opera from five angles.
