Apples Benefit By Frost Frost: Fruit Takes On Deeper Red As Growers Cheer For Cold Nights. ; APPLES BENEFIT BY FIRST FROST. Fruit Takes On Deeper Red As Growers Cheer For Cold Nights. WENATCHEE, Wash., Sept. 27.—The Wenatchee valley had its first frost of the season early today, the mercury falling to 33 degrees. Apples took on a deeper red and autumnal colors appeared on shrubs and trees. Last year the first frost came October 18. Growers will welcome the cold nights, as the fruit is reported loose because of warm days, and a light wind, it is feared, would cause a heavy drop. |
