الوصف: since the organic matter is a binding agent promoting the aggregation, but it is also protected by porosity. The soil pore distribution controls the spatial inaccessibility to microorganisms and the low O2 diffusion, that are very important factors in SOC protection. The smaller pores internal to microaggregates (53–250 μm) are more likely to exclude biota and their enzymes than those of macroaggregates. The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical and physical mechanisms of SOC protection in a long-term experiment established in the early 1960s in North-eastern Italy
