الوصف: | As communication devices become smaller and more integrated, there is a growing need for suited characterization methods that can accurately determine the characteristics of antennas and the coupling between multiple antennas. In many complex systems, direct measurements at the antenna ports can be difficult or even impossible using traditional methods. This thesis proposes a new approach to characterize antenna performance and coupling that addresses these challenges. Thus, this characterization technique is based on a passive evaluation of antenna performance through signal cross-correlations in the diffuse field. More specifically, the objective of this research is to apply the concept of noise correlation, used in various fields of physics, to electromagnetism to passively measure the impedance matrix between two antennas. In practice, the diffuse field environment is generated in a reverberation chamber excited by a single antenna. Mechanical and source stirring techniques are then combined to obtain the required properties, thus allowing for the passive characterization of mutual and self-impedances of the receiving antennas, and the deduction of other parameters of interest such as gain. It is shown that this cross-correlation method can be extended to evaluate the couplings within a system consisting of more than two elements.
