The objective of this thesis is to come up with a reliable method/approach how to investigate and measure the front-end staff experiences and challenges with the case unit’s inventory management system. There is currently a manual process involved in checking the availability of products at the stock room, which impacts the efficiency of sales, such as, increasing the time spent locating a specific product and having poor inventory visibility. However, the case unit must first understand these issues and evaluate, investigate and measure the challenges experienced by the front-end staff through a reliable method, serving as a basis for developing inventory systems. The study uses the applied action research and qualitative research methods. The data were collected through the interviews of the front-end staff with questions created beforehand, inspection at the case unit, and analysis of internal documenters. The theoretical framework focused on the most common challenges with inventory management system, as well as the methods that can be used for investigating these challenges and the set of questions to investigate the front-end staff challenges with inventory management system. Analysing the current practices done by the case unit helped to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the tools, methods, approaches currently to investigate the front-end staff experiences. The result of the analysis shows that a manual work of locating and tracking the products is done at the case unit, making it difficult for the front-end staff to have proper visibility to what is available or unavailable in the stock room. The outcome is a proposal of a reliable method for measuring and investigating the challenges faced by the front-end staff with its inventory system. The proposal includes two elements, (1) proposed methods and (2) proposed interview questions created from the interviews with front-end staff, along with the findings from the current state analysis and the conceptual framework of the thesis.
