| الوصف: | The field of stress physiology is not only of considerable theoretical importance; it is highly significant to agriculture. In practice, researchers tend to specialize within at least four subfields: chilling injury, cold stress, water stress, and salinity stress. Yet, these subfields have several basic terms in common. Thus, this chapter begins with the terms common to study of all plant stresses and is then divided into four sections representing the four subfields. Some bold-face terms are also defined in the context of other definitions; words in italics are defined elsewhere or are botanical names. See Chapter 6 for terms, units, and symbols used to describe plant water relations (e.g., water potential and osmotic, matric, and pressure potentials, etc.). |
