الوصف: The present study investigated the effects of enjoyable recreational activities and foot bath care accompanied by acupoint stimulation on the activities of daily living(ADL), motivation, mood, and daily living of elderly individuals residing in a long-term care insurance facility and in need of medium-level care. The present investigation was conducted once a week for 3 months on 6 elderly individuals over the age of 75 and in need of level 2-4 care. The results of a mood assessment using a face scale differed according to the intervention the individuals received; however, no changes were observed in the assessments of ADL and motivation throughout the investigation period. Transcripts of elderly individuals' free descriptions of their daily life conditions revealed that most looked forward to participating in the investigation. According to nursing personnel, those who attended the program "smile more, and have brighter facial expressions." The results of the present study suggest that recreational activities and foot bath care with acupoint stimulation were effective nursing methods for improving the living conditions of elderly individuals residing in a long-term care insurance facility. However, as no changes were observed in evaluation categories requiring muscular strength, such as ADL and transfer activities, the results indicate that the activities investigated in the present study may be more effective in combination with other muscular rehabilitation methods. Furthermore, only a few preceding studies on elderly individuals over the age of 75 and in need of a higher level of care are currently available. Therefore, further studies on contents and methods of evaluation for such individuals are required.
