I plan to run a Qualtrics study of ~1k English verb phrases, asking participants whether they interpret the VP as distributive (individually true of each member of a plural subject) or nondistributive (true of the subject as a whole, but not of each member individually). These verb phrases have been annotated for various semantically relevant properties using FrameNet. I will use the FrameNet annotations as independent variables and the participants' experimental ratings as the dependent variable, testing various hypotheses about the effect of the FrameNet annotations on participants' ratings of the distributivity/non-distributivity of verb phrases. |
