الوصف: We found that the high solid solution Al-9 Mg alloy with a bimodal grain structure processed by hard-plate rolling (HPR) exhibited enhanced thermal stability despite annealing at 275 °C for 24 hours. The notable thermal stability originates from the inherent stable deformation microstructure dominated by (101)-oriented coarse grains induced by a high solute Mg content, which further stabilizes the microstructure upon static annealing. Moreover, recovery occurs preferentially in coarse grains, leading to slow coarsening of the ultrafine grains. This paper provides a new way to improve thermal stability of severely deformed Al-Mg alloys by tailoring grain orientations.
