The Greek civil war was of undeniable international interest: Britain’s “divide and impera” diplomacy was counterbalanced by the Soviet Union’s realistic foreign policy. The USSR used this peripheral conflict as a means of pressure in order to consolidate its territorial gains in the East and the Balkans. At the same time, the policy of the Greek communists oscillated between the national and the universal, following the external strategy of the Soviet Union. The Greek civil war helped the Soviets to considerably change the balance of power in interstate relations, and at the same time confirmed the creation of a bipolar world.
La guerre civile grecque eut un intérêt international indéniable : la diplomatie britannique de « divide et impera » fut contrebalancée par la politique extérieure réaliste de l’Union soviétique. L’URSS utilisa cette bataille périphérique comme un moyen de pression afin de consolider ses acquis territoriaux à l’Est et dans les Balkans. En même temps, la politique des communistes grecs oscillait entre le national et l’universel en se calquant sur la stratégie extérieure de l’Union soviétique. La guerre civile grecque aida considérablement les Soviétiques à changer le rapport des forces dans les relations interétatiques, et, en même temps, confirma la création d’un monde bipolaire. |
