Internal carotid artery occlusion and cerebral infarction in a case of juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus and positive for phosphatidylserine dependent antiprothrombin antibody
Antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) are major risk factor of juvenile cerebral infarction, besides, may cause major arterial stenosis or occlusion. We report a case of a 32-year-old man who had been diagnosed with SLE at the age of 20 years, was admitted to our hospital because of left arm weakness. Cerebral infarction and occlusion of the right internal carotid artery were found. Test was positive for phosphatidylserine-dependent antiprothrombin antibody (aPS/PT), which can be useful for the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome. aPS/PT might have potential to cause thrombosis and vasculitis-like occlusion.
