Sexual and gender minorities (SGMs) and racial/ethnic people are categorized as health disparity groups by the National Institute for Health. There has been a call to action for the field to examine the needs of individuals who hold SGM and racial/ethnic identities, including LGBTQ People of Color (PoC), who exist at the intersection of these identities. This task is not without challenges, as notable health disparities are evident in psychiatric symptomatology across the life span for LGBTQ PoC. This chapter will focus on identifying specific systematic factors and psychosocial risk and resilience perspectives to understand the mental health of these communities. In particular, the role of intersectional discrimination in mental health symptoms for LGBTQ PoC is highlighted.
