Based on very limited available information, I explored Dewey’s lost years (1879–1882) and discovered that he resolved his adolescent crisis in three successive stages. The final stage was in 1880 when he found his spiritual sincerity in his present existence as a teacher in Oil City. By discarding his Christian revelation, he then proceeded with a period of intensive study of German philosophy of Kant, Hegel and Spinoza, mentored by his college professor H.A.P. Torrey. Dewey’s diligence, perseverance and pioneering spirit pushed him forward to pursuing a Ph.D at Johns Hopkins University.
