| مستخلص: | The study of permutations and combinations was widespread in India, with applications in diverse areas such as medicine, prosody, music, etc. In the current paper, we present a study of three combinatorial techniques (pratyayas) known as prastāra, uddiṣṭaand naṣṭa—usually found in texts on prosody and music—as discussed in Munīśvara’s hitherto unpublished Nisṛṣṭārthadūtīcommentary on Bhāskara’s celebrated mathematical text Līlāvatī. This paper brings to light Munīśvara’s lucid discussion on the application of these techniques in the context of numbers. |
