The first (N-heterocyclic carbene)AuI-catalyzed Mannich addition reactions of N-protected imines with different 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds are described. IPrAuNTf2 was proven to be an efficient catalyst for the reactions of β-keto esters and 1,3-diketones with N-sulfonylimines to afford the desired β-amino carbonyl compounds in good yields under very mild conditions.
