The article discusses research which quantified funding of biomedical research in the U.S. from 2003 to 2008. Funding was calculated using publicly available data from government, private and industry sources, while financial trends between 1994 to 2003 and 2003 to 2007 were compared using regression models. Additionally, the numbers of new drug and device approvals by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the research period were also determined. Main outcome measures include funding and growth rates by source and numbers of FDA approvals. Also presented in details are the research findings. |
