To improve the water solubility and friction properties of water-soluble polyether esters, three types of polyethylene glycol with relative molecular weights (1 5()0,2 00(),4 000) were esterified with small molecular weight n-heptane acid to prepare three types of polyether ester (PEEs) additives. The molecular structure and functional groups of the prepared PEEs were characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. SRV--V testing machine and tapping torque test bench were used to investigate the tribological performance of PEEs in deionized water, and non-contact three - dimensional profiler and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to analyze the morphology, of the wear scar surface of the sample after fiction test. The lubrication mechanism of PEEs was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and the anti-foaming properties, high and low temperature stability and anti-corrosion properties of PEEs additives were evaluated. The results show that PEEs exhibit excellent anti - wear and friction reduction performance in deionized water, because the ester fiinctional groups in the PEEs structure can strongly interact with the surface of metal friction pairs to form a relatively strong adsorption film. The aqueous solution with PEEs mass fraction of 3% has the lowest friction coefficient and the smallest wear volume. As the molecular weight of polyethylene glycol increases, the anti-wear and friction reducing properties of PEEs aqueous solution gradually weakens. Three types of PEEs aqueous solutions have good high and low temperature stability and anti-corrosion properties, and their anti-foaming properties is comparalle to the two commonly used reverse block poly ethers. This is because the PEEs structure contains hydrophobic long-chain alkyl groups, which are beneficial for improving anti-foaming performance of aqueous solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
