This paper investigates the influence of the adhesive layer between the piezoelectric actuator and the base structure on the structural bending response in active vibration control. The adhesive layer plays a crucial role in transmitting longitudinal vibrations between layers. However, its influence on structural bending response remains unclear. Two dynamic coupling models were developed for a partially covered beam using Hamilton's principle, with different considerations for shear deformation in the adhesive layer. Validation through finite element analysis shows the dynamic model accounting for shear deformation has wider applicability across adhesive types. Overlooking the adhesive layer leads to overestimating actuator performance. Vibration control sensitivity to adhesive Young's modulus underscores its significance. Optimizing actuation efficiency involves adjusting adhesive layer thickness based on its modulus. The contribution of this study is to provide guidance for piezoelectric actuators installation and adhesive selection for effective active control system design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
