This article discusses a study that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) and transfer learning to improve the detection of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) such as leukoplakia and ulcers. The study analyzes 696 images using a transfer learning-enhanced YOLOv8 model for OPMD detection. The model demonstrates high precision in detecting these conditions, but has some limitations in recall, indicating a tendency to miss certain cases.
