A recent article in the Journal of Travel Medicine discusses three novel pentavalent meningococcal vaccines. Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) can have severe consequences, including long-term disability and even death. The distribution of serogroups associated with IMD varies globally, with different serogroups predominating in different regions. The article highlights the development of pentavalent vaccines that offer protection against multiple serogroups, as well as the potential use of these vaccines for travelers attending mass gatherings or in high-risk situations.
