This article focuses on the book "Privatizing Monopolies: Lessons From the Telecommunications and Transport Sectors in Latin America," edited by Ravi Ramamurti. This book contains twelve papers present case studies of privatization in the telecommunications, airline, and road sectors of selected Latin American and Caribbean countries, exploring why and how privatization took place, and what difference it is making in terms of the enterprise's performance. Papers by Alvin G. Wint. Ravi Ramamurti, Ben Petrazzini, and Antonio Frances examine, respectively, telephone privatization in Jamaica, Mexico, Argentina, and Venezuela. Ricardo Paredes- Molina and Ramamurti study ownership and competition in Chile's airline industry. |
