The article discusses the patent practices with regards to the inventions of research tools. The proper scope of the patent rights and use of these research tools had been the main concern of patentees. Definitions of research tools and historical use and applications were provided. Recent developments of the law cases regarding the research tool patent infringement cases were reviewed and evaluated. Several changes in its licensing practices and practices of the patentees and researchers were scrutinized and observed. |
