مستخلص: |
The article discusses the role of race, nation, and mestizaje in the works of writers Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, José Martí and Eugenio María de Hostos. Sarmiento presents the idea that humanity is broken down by the constant conflicts between civilization and barbarism. Martí states that each race is entitled to equality. Hostos goes further to say that, while all are equal under natural law, the races should mix so as to homogenize the population. The paper proceeds to discuss the authors' impact on how we understand the relationship between race and society today. |
