This article reports that dozens of New York Police Department (NYPD) staffers now rapidly access and scour endless data that flashes on individual plasma screens and a digital display that's literally two stories tall. They're able to call up and cross-reference suspects' names, aliases and even MOs. The NYPD's new $11 million Real Time Crime Center was launched in July, and it is a compelling example of how a solution provider can partner with a high-profile local government agency to create a highly customized solution that revolutionizes the very way the agency does business. Custom-solution projects such as the NYPD center are of prime interest among local leaders, and not just for law-enforcement departments. The project speaks to the expected surge of interest in major IT integration solution packages among local governments. In fact, local government IT spending is expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of more than 10 percent. |
